Scattered showers and thunderstorms the next few days

The weather is kicking off summer a little earlier than usual.

MACON, Ga. — Warm temperatures in the 80s and sufficient moisture are creating a very summer-like pattern the next few days. We'll start the days off relatively quiet before scattered rain showers and thunderstorms pop up with the heat of the day in the afternoon. A few of these thunderstorms will be on the strong end, and could prompt a brief severe warning with isolated heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. They will be very short-lived if you do see them, so bring a rain jacket along any outdoor plans and go indoors when thunder roars.

The afternoon rain and storm chances will continue into Monday, before Tuesday we look to quiet down a little for the midweek. Temperatures will continue to warm throughout the beginning of the week, with a few days forecasted above the 90 degree mark. So if you didn't see your first 90 degree day last week, you're likely to join the club this week.

At the end of next week, a frontal boundary will push a more organized rain chance in. The line of showers will be fairly slow moving, so Thursday evening into Friday you'll need to plan on as wet days. After this front passes, we'll "cool" down a little bit. Highs will drop down to around 80 degrees and lows will start the days off in the 50s. Nothing major, but still a noticeable change from the 90s.
